Fruit and Tea Smoothie

This recipe is full of antioxidants so it’s a great way to start your day!

This recipe makes 2 servings (1 cup each)

Ingredients:

3/4 cup hot brewed green tea
2 cups frozen unsweetened mixed fruit
3 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions:

Add tea, fruit, honey and lemon juice in a Vita-Mix blender.

Blend on high until smooth.

Melon Ginger Smoothie

The ginger in this recipe will give you a littler perk. It’s a great way to refresh after working out or a great way to start your day.

This recipe makes 2 servings (1 cup each)

Ingredients:

1/3 cup chopped peeled kiwi, (1 large)
1/2 ripe banana, sliced
1 cup chopped honeydew melon
2 teaspoons lime juice
1/4 cup white grape juice
1/2 teaspoon ginger juice, (see note)
1/3 cup lemon sorbet
1/2 cup ice

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a Vita-Mix blender.

Pulse three times (this will chop the fruit).

Blend until smooth.

Note: You will have to look for bottled ginger juice in a health-food store or gourmet market. Another option is making your own – squeeze chopped fresh ginger through a garlic press or piece of cheesecloth.

Pineapple Smoothie

Using the pineapple-orange juice concentrate gives this recipe even more of a pineapple flavor.

This recipe makes 2 servings (1 cup each)

Ingredients:

1 cup cubed fresh or drained canned pineapple
1/2 cup nonfat vanilla yogurt
1/4 cup frozen pineapple-orange-juice concentrate
1/4 cup water
2 ice cubes, crushed

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a Vita-Mix blender.

Blend on high until smooth and frothy.

Banana Cantaloupe Smoothie

This recipe is packed full of calcium, vitamin C, beta carotene and potassium.

This recipe makes 1 serving.

Ingredients:

1/4 ripe cantaloupe (make sure it’s seeded and coarsely chopped)
1 banana
1/2 cup yogurt
2 tablespoons nonfat dry milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons honey
1 1/2 tablespoons frozen orange juice concentrate

Directions:

Place unpeeled banana in the freezer overnight. Remove banana from freezer and let sit for about 2 minutes (until the skin begins to soften). Using a paring knife, remove the skin. Cut banana into chunks.

In a Vita-Mix blender add banana, yogurt, cantaloupe, dry milk, orange juice, honey and vanilla.

Blend on high until smooth.

Healthy Smoothie

You can use any combination of fruit and juice with this smoothie. I chose apple juice but you can try other juices like papaya, cherry or even apricot. You can also substitute tofu for the yogurt if you wish and you can even add some nuts such as almonds if you wish.

This recipe makes 1 serving.

Ingredients:

1 cup yogurt
1/4 cup apple juice
1 1/2 cups frozen fruit – any flavor

Directions:

Add yogurt and fruit juice to a Vita-Mix blender and puree until smooth.

Keep Vita-Mix blender running and add fruit. Continue to puree until smooth.

Almond Strawberry Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 cup almond milk
1/2 cup silken tofu
10 frozen whole strawberries
2 tablespoons sugar

Directions:

Combine almond milk, tofu, strawberries and sugar in a Vita-Mix blender.

Blend on high until smooth.

Pour into glasses and serve immediately.

Fruit and Avocado Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 avocado, peeled and pitted
3/4 cup orange juice
3/4 cup raspberry juice
1/2 cup frozen raspberries

Directions:

In a Vita-Mix blender puree the avocado, orange juice, raspberry juice and raspberries until smooth.

Serve immediately (makes 2 servings).

Passion Fruit Smoothie with Mango

Ingredients:

2/3 cup nonfat vanilla yogurt
1/3-1/2 cup frozen passion fruit juice concentrate
1 ripe mango, peeled and diced (1 cup)
1/4 cup water
2 ice cubes

Directions:

In Vita-Mix blender combine yogurt, mango, 1/3 cup juice concentrate, water and ice.

Cover and blend until smooth.

Note: You can use more of the passion-fruit concentrate if desired.

Banana Malted Smoothie

You don’t have to leave the comfort of your home to ‘take a trip’ to the local malt shop. In fact not only is this recipe made from the comfort of your home it’s probably a lot more healthy than if you were having something at the ‘real’ malt shop.

This recipe makes 2 servings, 1 cup each

Ingredients:

1 ripe medium banana, peeled and sliced
1 cup low-fat milk
1/4 cup malted-milk powder (Ovaltine or Carnation)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon brown sugar
4 ice cubes, crushed

Directions:

In a Vita-Mix blender combine milk, banana, malted-milk powder, brown sugar, vanilla and ice cubes. Blend until frothy.

Serve immediately.

Coffee Tofu Smoothie

This one sounds rather interesting. Just the title is probably enough to scare some people away! If you try this one be sure to leave a comment letting me know how you like it.

This recipe makes 2 servings, 1 1/2 cups each

Ingredients:

1/2 cup silken tofu
1 1/4 cups low-fat milk
1-2 tablespoons sugar
1 ripe banana
Cinnamon
2 teaspoons instant coffee powder
2 ice cubes

Directions:

Add all ingredients, except cinnamon, in a Vita-Mix blender.

Blend until frothy.

Taste. If needed, add more sugar.

Once ready, pour into glasses and sprinkle with cinnamon.
