It’s All About The Green Fruit

This recipe is all about the greener side of things. All the fruits used in this are green. It’s a nice cooling drink for the hot days of summer.

Ingredients:

2 cups honeydew melon, cut into pieces
2 kiwi, peeled and cut into pieces
1 green apple, peeled, cored and cut into pieces
1 tablespoon lime juice
4 tablespoon sugar
1 cup ice cubes

Directions:

1. Place all the fruit into a Vita-Mix blender.
2. Add the lime juice and blend 30 seconds to combine.
3. Sprinkle in the sugar and add the ice cubes.
4. Continue blending until mixture becomes very smooth or until desired consistency is reached.

Note: If you prefer a more tangy bite leave out the sugar or add just a little at a time to reach the desired sweetness.

Have Yourself a Little Tutti Fruiti

This recipe is a favorite of kids. The fruit cocktail (the juice) makes it a sweet drink and what kid doesn’t love something on the sweet side?

Ingredients:

1 (8 oz) can fruit cocktail, untrained and chilled
1 cup milk
1/4 cup nonfat milk powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup ice cubes
2 dashes cinnamon

Directions:

1. Place the fruit cocktail juice in a Vita-Mix blender.
2. Add the milk.
3. Put the milk powder and vanilla in.
4. On low, blend until ingredients just combined.
5. Place the ice cubes in the blender and blend until smooth.
6. Use the cinnamon as a garnish, adding just before serving.

Just Like Custard

This recipe sets just like a custard but once mixed, before serving, it turns into a drinkable consistency. It puts a unique twist on the average smoothie. A great treat for the kids!

Ingredients:

3 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups milk
1 cup cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Assorted berries

Directions:

1. Place the eggs in a mixing bowl and beat just until mixed together.
2. Add the sugar and salt.
3. Gently stir in the milk and cream.
4. Place mixture in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring continuously, until mixture is thick enough to coat the spoon. Remove and stir in the vanilla.
5. Refrigerate until cold.
6. Remove and beat with an electric mixture until blended together well.
7. Place in glasses and top with the assorted berries before serving.

Note: The mixture is meant to set like a custard. You have to use an electric mixer before serving in order to ensure that it’s more ofa drinkable consistency.

Summer Is Almost Here Smoothie

Lemonade is an all time favorite drink of the summer. This recipe makes me think of summer and wish for the warm weather to soon appear.

Ingredients:

1 nectarine, pitted and chopped
1 (6 oz) container peach yogurt frozen
1/2 cup Pine-Orange-Guava juice
1/2 cup lemonade
2 teaspoons sugar

Directions:

1. Place the nectarine and peach yogurt into a Vita-Mix blender.
2. Add the juice and lemonade.
3. Sprinkle in the sugar.
4. Blend on high until smooth.

Note: If you are limiting your sugar intake or just can’t have sugar replace the lemonade with a sugar free version and use a packet of sweetner in place of the sugar.

You Should Of Had a Smoothie

I personally haven’t tried this one. It’s another one of those recipes that has some interesting ingredient combinations. Leave a comment letting me know what you think if you give it a try.

Ingredients:

2 cups vegetable juice
1/2 cup carrot juice
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1 teaspoon lemon juice
4 spinach leaves
1 teaspoon parsley flakes
12 ice cubes

Directions:

1. Pour vegetable and carrot juice into Vita-Mix blender.
2. Add the hot sauce and lemon juice.
3. Add the spinach leaves.
4. Sprinkle in the parsley.
5. Carefully add the ice cubes.
6. Blend until mixture is creamy or desired consistency.

Note: If you like thicker smoothies, don’t blend for too long. Blending breaks down the ingredients. Chop the spinach to help blend them faster.

4 Juice Smoothie Recipe

This recipe is all about the juice. Using all the different flavored juices gives it’s a nice sweet taste.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup pineapple juice
1/4 cup grapefruit juice
1/4 cup lime juice
4 TBSP low fat plain yogurt
1 cup ice

Directions:

1. Pour all juices into the blender.
2. Add the yogurt and ice.
3. Blend until smooth.

Note: If you don’t like a real thick drink you can add some extra juice (of your choice). Add it one teaspoon at a time and blend after each addition. Continue doing so until you reach desired consistency.

Chocolate Peanut Butter & Banana Smoothie

This is sure to be a hit with the kids!

Ingredients:

1 cup chocolate milk, very cold
1 banana, peeled and cut into pieces
2 TBSP creamy peanut butter
2 ice cubes, crushed

Directions:

Place the milk in your Vita-Mix blender.

Add the banana and peanut butter.

Carefully place the crushed ice into the blender.

Blend until desired consistency.

Serve immediately.

Note: If you would like to make a Reese cup smoothie simply leave out the banana! Kids will enjoy either variation.

Brown Cow

Here’s a smoothie recipe if you are looking for a dessert kind of treat with a bit of a coffee twist to it. If you are dieting you can still enjoy just use low fat ice cream and a sugar free topping.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup chocolate ice cream
2 TBSP chocolate ice cream topping
1/4 cup brewed coffee, cooled to room temperature
1/4 cup club soda

Directions:

In your Vita-Mix blender add the ice cream.

Add the topping and coffee.

Blend until mixture is smooth.

Remove the cover and add the club soda.

Stir with a rubber spatula just until the club soda is mixed in.

Serve immediately.

Chocolate Chip Peppermint Smoothie

This recipe will remind you of a peppermint stick.

Ingredients:

4 ice cream scoops peppermint chocolate chip ice cream
1 1/2 cups milk
2 drops peppermint extract

Directions:

Place the ice cream in a Vita-Mix blender.

Add the milk.

Add the drops of extract.

Place lid on blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

Note: Sometimes it can be hard to find peppermint chocolate chip ice cream. If you can’t find it just use plain peppermint ice cream. You can add about 1/4 of a bag of semi sweet chocolate chips and achieve the same taste.
