Smoothie Salad

This is definitely not your normal type of smoothie. It certainly sounds interesting that’s for sure.

It can be hard to make sure we are eating enough vegetables. Salads are a great way to get them but sometimes we just don’t have the time to make them so why not serve one up as a drink?

Ingredients:

1 (8 oz) container plain yogurt
1 cucumber, peeled, seeded and chopped
1 tomato, chopped
1 stalk of celery, chopped
3 romaine lettuce leaves
1 tablespoon onion, minced
6 ice cubes
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

In a Vita-Mix blender place the yogurt.

Add the cucumber, tomato, celery, lettuce and onion.

Now add the ice cubes and puree until smooth.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Now blend just slightly to mix in the seasoning.

Strawberry Jam Smoothie

1 tablespoon honey

Note: You can replace the vanilla yogurt and strawberry jam with any flavor you like.

Carmel Apple Smoothie

Carmel apples can be a favorite treat for kids. So why not serve it up in a glass?

Ingredients:

1/4 cup carmel icecream topping
1/8 cup chocolate syrup
1 apple, peeled, cored and diced
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
8 ice cubes

Directions:

In a Vita-Mix blender add the ice cream topping and syrup.

Now place the apples into the blender.

Add the milk.

Add the cinnamon.

Place the ice cubes on top.

Place lid on blender and blend until creamy.

*You can use different flavored syrups to experiment with the taste of this smoothie. Also you can use a tart apple if you want a little less sweet of a drink. Because of the natural juices in a tart apple it takes away some of the sweetness.

S’More Smoothie

This smoothie has no nutritional value so it’s not something you want to serve often. It’s definitely in the dessert category and one that you can use for a special treat on a special occasion. It’s sure to be a huge hit with the kids!

Get Me Going Smoothie

Here’s another great recipe that will get you going in the morning. Sometimes there just isn’t time to have a breakfast meal. A smoothie is a great substitute.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup almonds
1 banana, peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon honey
2 tablespoons vanilla yogurt
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
pinch of nutmeg
4 ice cubes

Now add the almonds, banana, honey, yogurt and vanilla extract.

Sprinkle the nutmeg in.

Place the ice cubes in the blender now.

Blend on high speed until mixture becomes frothy.

Note: For a different version of this recipe try replacing the banana with a peach and the vanilla extract with almond extract. You can also use cinnamon instead of nutmeg if you aren’t a fan of nutmeg.

Unwind and Relax Smoothie

Let’s face it, we all suffer from some sort of stress in our life. Start your day off by relaxing with this smoothie. Or unwind at the end of the day with this.

8 herbal lemon tea bags
2 cups boiling water
1 pint raspberry sherbet
2 cups pineapple juice

Directions:

Boil 2 cups water. Pour over the tea bags.

Cover and allow to set 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and place the tea in the refrigerator to cool.

Place the sherbet and juice in a Vita-Mix blender, add the tea and blend until smooth.

Soda Pop Smoothie

This is something that you probably don’t want to serve on a regular basis. With the ice cream and grape soda pop it’s full of sugar and lacks nutrition. It’s great for a special occasion though.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup grape soda
2 cups vanilla ice cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
10 ice cubes

Directions:

Pour the grape soda into a Vita-Mix blender. Now add the ice cream and vanilla extract. Put the ice cubes on top, close lid and blend until smooth.

Note: If to thick add some milk a little at a time to reach the consistency you are looking for. You can also change this recipe by using different flavored sodas – root beer, orange, etc.

Tastes Like an Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie

If you woke up late and don’t have time to give the kids breakfast this is a great option. Heck even if you aren’t running behind this is still a great breakfast choice.

Ingredients:

2 cups low fat milk
1 apple, peeled, cored and diced
1/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup instant oatmeal
1 TBSP creamy peanut butter

Directions:

In a Vita-Mix blender add the milk, apple and raisins. Now place the oats in the blender and put the peanut butter on top. Cover and blend well.

Because of what ingredients are used in this smoothie it tastes like an old fashion oatmeal cookie. If your kids do not like raisins you can leave that ingredient out.

Just Peachy

Ingredients:

1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 cup peach yogurt
1/2 cup peach sorbet
1 cup peaches, frozen and cut into chunks
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

1. Place the evaporated milk and yogurt in a Vita-Mix blender.
2. Blend enough to just combine the yogurt and evaporated milk.
3. Add the sorbet and peaches.
4. Now blend until smooth and creamy.
5. Use the cinnamon as a garnishment, sprinkling on top just before serving.

Note: If you do not like using cinnamon as a garnishment you can add it to the blender when you add the sorbet and peaches and blend well. If you are looking for something a little sweeter add the cinnamon to some sugar and you can use that to garnish before serving.
