Apple Pie Smoothie

This is a great substitute for applesauce. You can control the consistency of it by adding more or less of the chopped apple.

1 frozen banana
1/2 peeled apple
8oz. apple juice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
pinch nutmeg

Add all ingredients to a Vita-Mix blender and blend.

Citrus Tea Smoothie

8 oz. Orange segments
4 oz. Grapefruit segments, chilled
4 oz. Strong-brewed Earl Grey tea, chilled
6 oz. Orange sherbet
2 Ice cubes

Place the orange segments, grapefruit segments and Earl Grey tea into your Vita-Mix blender. Add the sherbet and ice. Blend until smooth.

    Sparkling Smoothie

Once again I've found a recipe to share that I haven't tried but one that sounds interesting and I'm curious to know your comments once you try it.

8 oz. yogurt; plain or fruit-flavored
        16 oz. chopped fresh fruit
        pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
5 oz. ice-cold sparkling water or ginger ale

    This recipe makes 2 servings.

Place the yogurt, fruit and nutmeg in a Vita-Mix blender.  Blend until smooth.

Pout into glasses, filling only 3/4 of the way full.  Add sparkling water or ginger ale to top it off and stir gently to combine.

Optional: Garnish with mint sprigs or fruit slices.

    Lemon Frappe

This is one of my favorite summer time drinks. There's just something about the taste of frozen lemonade on a nice hot summer day.

6 oz. frozen lemonade or limeade
        4 oz. concentrate, undiluted
        16 oz. cold water
        12 oz. lemon sherbert
        ginger ale

Place the first three ingredients into a Vita-Mix blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a pitcher; add ginger ale. Serve immediately.

    Granola Peach Smoothie

Peaches are not one of my favorite fruits but I really enjoyed this smoothie!

    1 medium ripe peach
    2 teaspoons lemon juice
    2 teaspoons honey
    4 oz. yogurt
2 tablespoons granola or buckwheat crunchies

Blend the first four ingredients. Sprinkle granola or buckwheat on top.

    Coconut Ginger Smoothie

    2 oz. apple juice
    1 pinch coconut, grated *
    1/2 banana
1/4 teaspoon ginger root; fresh, peeled and grated
    2 ice cubes

Blend all ingredients in a Vita-Mix blender until smooth.

    * Substitute with 1 Tbsp coconut milk (not the canned drink mix type coconut syrup, it is too sweet). If you using fresh coconut meat, throgh two 1 inch pieces in and blend until smooth (no worries about grit, the high speed of the Vita-Mix will pulverize the coconut).

    Bananalada Blast

        2 oz. cream of coconut
        2 oz. apple juice

        1/4 teaspoon bee pollen
        1/4 teaspoon nutritional yeast
        1/4 teaspoon protein powder
        6 oz. ice cubes

Following the order of ingredients listed, add them into a Vita Mix blender. Secure lid and blend until smooth.

    Vitamin C Smoothie

Now that school is back in session and kids are passing around the germs here is a great smoothie recipe that will help keep the sickies away. It's full of lots of vitamin C.

    2 bananas
    1 orange
    2 kiwis
    12 frozen strawberries
    4 oz. frozen blueberries
    16 oz. orange juice

Put all the ingredients in the Vita-Mix blender and mix on high until fully blended.

    Rainbow Smoothie

This recipe has sherbet in it so you can kind of 'trick' your kids into thinking that they are getting ice cream. They don't have to know it's a healthier option.

        10 oz. apple-cranberry juice
        4 oz. strawberries
        2 oz. pineapple chunks
        2 scoops rainbow sherbet
        1/2 banana
        4 oz. ice

Place ingredients in a Vita-Mix blender and purée until smooth.
